On the road to entrepreneurship, legal costs are one of the most expensive costs a business owner can incur. To help black entrepreneurs in the context of COVID-19 or the novel coronavirus pandemic, the official Black Wall Street organization, a platform and directory for black-owned companies in various sectors in the US, is working with Baker Botts. an international technology and energy company that financially provides legal advice to black-owned companies.
Baker Botts announced news this week that the firm has pledged to provide $ 10 million in free legal services to members of the organization within three years. “Over the past few months we have had the opportunity to conduct a series of listening and learning sessions in our offices and with our colleagues,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts, in a press release.
“We must recognize the ubiquitous racial inequality in our society, take responsibility for it, and take action to help resolve the problem. This strategic collaboration is a small step in this direction. Ensuring equitable access to legal services is a necessary part of ensuring that black-owned businesses thrive. ”
“We are delighted to be working with Baker Botts and his extensive network of talented attorneys,” said Mandy Bowman, founder and CEO of Official Black Wall Street, in a press release. “Black entrepreneurs often lack the visibility and resources necessary to grow a business. If you familiarize black-owned companies with these services, they will benefit and strengthen the black community through economy and ownership. “
