Thyk Skynn, a black line of fashionable bulletproof vests for men, women, and children, has seen sales grow nearly 400 percent in recent weeks as Americans remain concerned about their protection from police shootings and other random acts of violence.
Mike Tyree, the founder and CEO of Thyk Skynn, was an Atlanta police officer for 9 years. He said he left his career and decided to start the company as a way of providing innocent people with a safe way to protect themselves peacefully.
Thyk Skynn vests perform the same function as other bulletproof vests but are more fashionable and can even be disguised as regular clothing. There are different designs in different colors and sizes. Each vest has a carrier for ballistic armor in which ballistic material can be inserted. The vests aren’t cheap, however. They range from $ 325 to over $ 500.
According to TMZ, the rise in sales apparently began after a continued increase in senseless shootings of African Americans by police officers such as the Jacob Blake case, who was shot seven times in the back by a white police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
